Majora's Mask Pumpkin

Now it's time for the second pumpkin I carved this year...

I attempted to carve a pumpkin based on the moon from the old n64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. That game has always reminded me of Halloween, and the moon from it is quite possibly the most terrifying thing to ever be in an E rated game. Seemed appropriate as a pumpkin design.

I've always gone at pumpkins the traditional way; carving out spots for light to shine through, etc. After seeing some of the amazing things people have done with pumpkins, I wanted to try my hand at actual "carving." So, here's my first shot at it, done with a clay carving tool I found in my supplies. I'm already excited to try it again next year.

Here he is lit up. I didn't have any candles, so I improvised with a red glowstick and a mini-flashlight. Sorry for the photo quality, my camera isn't exactly top of the line.

Finally, since my blacklight was right there, I tried seeing what it would look like with a UV light source:



Well, that's it for Halloween 2010.

Oogie Boogie Pumpkin

It just isn't Halloween to me if I don't get to carve a pumpkin. I carved two this year, but to stop this entry from getting all cluttered I'll put them into separate posts.

Halloween night my friend Connie and I watched horror movies, ordered a pizza, and broke out the carving knives.

On my pumpkin I carved the Oogie Boogie man from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Really, what says "Halloween" better than Oogie Boogie?

I later decided to see what Boogie would look like when lit by a green glowstick instead:

Then (in true Boogie fashion) I thought, "Why not light him up via Blacklight?"

Now, since I had already filled him up with glowsticks and bathed him in UV light, why not go the whole 9 yards and make him glow in the dark?



There you have it. More evidence that I can never leave well enough alone, and that my immediate access to glow-in-the-dark paints can only lead to trouble for everyone.

Just a few little things from my sketchbook.As you can tell from this next one, my favorite things to draw are kitty cats.This last one is part of a project that I've been working on forever. I just can't seem to get it right.

Masquerade Mask Made With Common Dorm Room Junk

MIAD's annual masquerade ball is tomorrow night... and I find myself without the most important aspect of my costume - a mask!

Due to time and monetary constraints, I'm going to attempt to construct one out of whatever I happen to have in my dorm.

Which seems to be mostly paper plates, masking tape, an old spent glowstick mask, some feathers, and my glue gun.

Let this serve as the "before" picture:


I will update this post with WIP pics, as well as post the final mask when it's done.

That's assuming I can turn a pile of crap into a mask without any real planning. Well, it's worth a shot.

I have a general idea now of what I'm doing, although I'm not quite sure of how well I'll be able to pull it off. The paper plates are a great resource.
