Animation Exercises

I took a fairly beginner animation class last semester, and here are some of the exercises I landed up doing:











These were just in-class motion exercises, so they are all really rough.

Old Fanart

This was a digital painting I did quite a while ago. It depicts my cousin's Phantasy Star Online character in his favorite level.


It's funny to me now, because it was the first of its type that I had done, and I really had no idea what I was doing.

For example, this is the actual working size of the canvas, so I couldn't really zoom in, and I did it all on one layer.

I'm glad I've since learned my lesson.

The last one is a fan drawing I did of a character from Death Note, which is an anime I liked a lot in Highschool. It was also the first drawing I did when I found out how fun it is to ink something with india ink and a calligraphy pen.

Fanart Funtimes

There's a webcomic site that a lot of my friends and I have been really into lately called mspaintadventures.

It's a long read, but really interesting, so if you need a way to pass some time I recommend it.

Anyway, been drawing some fan art of it with my friends. There's one character in particular that I really like, so I've done some digital art of him for the fun of it:

Some people may say fan art is a waste of time, but I think it's a great way to practice.

Various POKEMON Doodles

I... actually have a lot of doodles/sketches on my harddrive that I haven't posted. Hmm. I always keep forgetting to do it.

Looking through my doodle folder I noticed a lot of them were related to Pokemon, so, that is the theme of this doodle post!

I tend to draw my Pokemon a lot angrier looking than they are in the games or anime. If I was stuck in a ball all day and ordered around by a 10 year old, I'd be angry too.







The above is my imaginary team I'd have as a Gym Leader, consisting of ONLY CAT POKEMON. I'd give out the hairball badge.



That last one is Bowser, who very much is not a pokemon. He was saved in the same folder, though, so I figured why not upload him too. If Bowser WAS a Pokemon, he'd sure be on my team.

I have a sketchbook that I've been working on forever. It will be forever again before I eventually manage to fill it, so I went ahead and scanned some pages that I have:

Majora's Mask Pumpkin

Now it's time for the second pumpkin I carved this year...

I attempted to carve a pumpkin based on the moon from the old n64 game, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. That game has always reminded me of Halloween, and the moon from it is quite possibly the most terrifying thing to ever be in an E rated game. Seemed appropriate as a pumpkin design.

I've always gone at pumpkins the traditional way; carving out spots for light to shine through, etc. After seeing some of the amazing things people have done with pumpkins, I wanted to try my hand at actual "carving." So, here's my first shot at it, done with a clay carving tool I found in my supplies. I'm already excited to try it again next year.

Here he is lit up. I didn't have any candles, so I improvised with a red glowstick and a mini-flashlight. Sorry for the photo quality, my camera isn't exactly top of the line.

My Left4Dead Hunter Costume for Halloween 2010!

I've been super busy with life lately... During the Summer, it was my job, and now I have school work.

Still, I feel like I should give this blog thing another shot.

Why not start back up by showing my Halloween costume for this year?

This year I dressed up as a zombie creature from the game "Left 4 Dead," known as a Hunter. Here's the concept art of one, for comparison.

I had a lot of fun making the costume, mostly because I couldn't afford to spend anything on it. It was interesting trying to find "free" alternatives to methods you would usually use... it was also my first time trying to do "horror" make-up. That was the most fun out of all it!

Those first three photos were taken by my friend, Connie. I may have gotten distracted from acting the part of a hunter by awesome fish...

The above photo was cropped, because I wasn't sure if Connie wanted me posting a picture of her up here. She dressed up as Louis from Left4Dead, and our friend Erin dressed up as Francis. It was amazing.This second set of photos was taken by my friend Molly, aka freckledlass here on blogger.

In all the costume cost less than $10 dollars. The hoodie was $1 at a garage sale, the pants and shows were old beat-up clothes I had. The fake teeth were $2, and I also bought fake nails for $2 and some cheap black and white make-up for $2. Everything else was made or "left overs" from previous costumes. The fake blood I made out of red paint, milk, chocolate sauce, and corn syrup. The gross "skin" was dried acrylic paint.

Anyway, it was a ton of fun.
